Ogre rebasing...

So I have made a bit of progress with my KOW ogre rebasing.   The trays turned out pretty good.  I didn't have any wood on hand for the magnet backing, so I used some old bases.  Turned out pretty good. but I needed to fill the excess space to be able to glue down the cork securely.   I wanted something quick to apply so I decided to used water effects, we will see how it turns out...

we will see...

Test Tree...

Last night I manage to mostly finish up a test tree.  All that is missing is some flocking around the base of the tree, but I figured I would look at it on and off for the next few days and see if I like it before finishing it off.  One interesting thing is i can vary the tone a bit, cause I found a few different colored artist inks for the final shading, So i will probably vary the trees a bit.

Primed and ready.  Then I realized I didnt put any gravel on the base

Had to play around with the mix a bit, but I think this works

Another shot

Realized my trays are'nt deep enough for my magnets, so this is a quick fix.  I will have to make them a bit deeper for the next army.

First Step

Second step

Third Step

Fourth Step

Ended up being a little Dark So I went back a drybrushed a bit, and painted the gravel

Another view,  I think it works, once I add some flocking around the base.  I figure I will change the ink used on every few trees to add some variations.

So what do ya'll think?  Acceptable for Fantasy terrain?

First Batch of KOW trays...

So for my first batch of KOW trays, I am doing Large infantry trays for my ogres.

Looks good.  I moved the dice tray into the footprint of the unit , I didn't want it hanging out the back like some of the others I have seen,

Dice tray is a bit to small, I want to use 16mm dice for wound trackers, easier to handle than 12mm, for me anyways.

A little better, I also added a couple of holes for magnets.  I also realized at this point since i merged the templates for the tray and the dice tray, I couldnt resize one without resizing the other.

So I seperated them, final dice tray.

The unit tray size looks good, a little big by a couple mm.  But once I take a bit of sand paper to smooth the edges a bit should be close enough for gaming.

Final version of Large infantry Horde 120mmX80mm

First batch printed.  Now to add a bit of Bass wood to add backing for the magnets, then cork and texture.

I also acetone washed one of my trees to prime and test paint today.

2015/16 Hobby Season...The To Do list...

A few weeks ago I was browsing around the web and came across this post on 40K addict  The 2015/16 Hobby Season starts soon, join me!.  I really  like the idea and since my muse has a tendency to wander off now and again, it might help provide me with some drive to keep up with my hobbying on a more regular basis.   The death of WHFB really did kill off my hobby drive the last few months, but ever since Bayou, the itch has started again.

So what are my plans for this year, lets see...

  • Get a set of terrain and a mat ready for gaming.  One of my gaming buddies has a great table set up but the terrain is lacking, and after playing all the Bayou games on F.A.T. mats.  I am going to pick one up and match a full set of terrain to the table
  • Rebase a army for Kings of War.  As of right now the south (Texas) at least is leaning towards Kings of War to be our replacement for WHFB.  The rule set seems nice and I can use a lot of what is hanging around the Closet of lost hope.
  • Edit some movement trays for printing.  This will be a bit ongoing as I need them
  • Work on some Necrons.  More of a painting project, I got a ton of necrons hanging around, might as well paint some.
  • I have several Ideas for new armies and I would like to finish at least one
  • Forces of Nature/Kingdoms of Man/Orcs/Goblins/Dwarfs  assuming we stick with KOW that is
  • Paint some Malifaux Crews including the display trays
  • Paint a stand alone project or two.  Just for funzies
  • Post on a more regular basis
  • Digitize my old white Dwarfs

So thats what I think I am planning on doing at this moment.  Of course this may change depending on things that happen.  So I may add to the list...

First up is the Rebasing and Terrain.   I am working on printing trays right now.  I found a few on thingiverse I liked, but i wanted to change a few things so I am teaching myself how to do minor edits and so far it seems to be working.
